Rebates for energy efficient
appliances
First it was old gas guzzlers, now it's cash for your old
appliances. The Federal Government will start offering rebates in the fall of 2009 for old
appliances. You'll be able to get rebates of $50 to $200 for buying more-energy efficient
appliances.
Unlike the cash for clunkers program, you won't need to trade in anything, but you'll get
money back for buying products that carry the energy-star seal. The US Energy Department
is spending $300 million of federal stimulus money to finance the "Cash for
Appliances" program.

A federal appeals court recently dealt a blow
to America's wildlife when they opened the Beaufort Sea north of Alaska to Shell for oil and gas drilling -- ruling
against environmentalists who claimed exploration would harm the wildlife there. On the Bush Administration's very last
business day in office, they proposed a new five-year plan for offshore oil and gas leasing. Upon taking office,
Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar has done his best to promote a
progressive agenda about oil drilling that protects Arctic wildlife.
